Vintage round vanity mirror with a hand-painted lacquer frame, likely Indian, made before 2006. It stands on a table with its fold-out easel leg or hangs on the wall from its cord loop.
Design
The wide frame has a dark green-black lacquer ground painted in gold, orange and cream. The scene runs all the way around: domed and peaked buildings with brick and lattice detail, flowering trees, and several figures in long robes, including one seated in a chair. A thin painted line borders the outer rim. The round mirror glass sits inside the frame.
Back
The back is covered in dark green velvet held with small brass tacks. A velvet-covered easel leg folds out so the mirror can stand on a dresser or shelf; its end is notched into two feet. A braided purple and gold cord loop, fixed with a brass eyelet, lets it hang on a wall. No maker's marks, stamps or signatures.
Condition
Good vintage condition, with honest wear:
- Pale scuffed patch on the upper right of the painted rim
- Small flecks of paint off the outer edge
- Light speckled spotting in the mirror glass (see close-up photos)
- Crushed, uneven velvet pile on the back
- Easel leg and hanging cord are intact and work
