Yaka Power Figure Mbwoolo - DR Congo Wood Statue Medicine Bundle 14.5"

Cultural & Historical Provenance
Bring the profound spiritual heritage of the Kwango River basin into your collection with this exceptional vintage Yaka power figure (traditionally known as a Mbwoolo, Biteke, or Phuungu). Originating from the Yaka people of the southwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo, these sculptures are deeply respected ritual vessels designed to ward off misfortune, heal illness, protect the lineage, and guard against malevolent forces.
Among the Yaka, a ritual healer or specialist (nganga) activates the figure by packing it with sacred medicinal ingredients (bilongo), which are believed to hold ancestral life force. On this piece, the midsection is entirely enclosed in a substantial, hand-sewn, weathered fabric bundle. This pouch served as the physical containment for these protective earth elements, herbs, and ritual materials.
