Overview
A vintage wooden microscope carrying case with an olive-green painted exterior, finger-jointed corners and a fitted interior lined in bright green felt. The lower tray has shaped cut-outs for the microscope base and accessories, plus a wooden block with ten round holes for objective lenses. The lid has felt-covered blocks that hold the instrument in place when the case is closed. A metal draw latch closes the front, and the top has two small hardware loops. It works well as sturdy storage for a microscope, tools or small collectibles, or as an industrial accent on a shelf or desk.
Background
Fitted wooden cases like this were made to carry and protect laboratory microscopes and their accessories. This case has no visible maker's mark. A printed label on the front reads "N 261661", and "107" is written in white on the lid. A few loose items come with it: a black hinged plate, a cone-shaped fitting, a round metal piece, a metal ring, a curved hook tool, an L-shaped bracket stamped "U.S.A.", one round glass filter and a small bag of parts. The microscope and the parts seen on the floor in some photos are not included.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The case is solid, with tight joints, working hinges and a working latch. The outside has scratches, scuffs, small paint losses along the edges and remnants of old paper labels. The felt is bright, with light wear and some lifting along the back edge of the tray.
