Overview
A vintage Wm. A. Rogers silverplate bread tray with a long oval shape. It has a wide, flat rim edged with a stamped leaf border, and a recessed oval well in the center. The plain, polished surface gives it a clean, classic look. It works well for bread, rolls or appetizers, and it also suits a dresser, vanity or entry table as a catchall tray.
Background
Silverplate bread trays like this were a standard part of dining sets through the early and mid-20th century. Wm. A. Rogers made silverplate for many years and later became part of Oneida. This tray is marked on the underside with a cross, the initials WR and a keystone, along with "EPNS" and the number 490. EPNS stands for electroplated nickel silver.
Condition
Good vintage condition with wear from use. The top has light scratches and some darker tarnish, mainly at one end. The underside has heavy spotted tarnish and water marks, with a brown tarnished area near one end; the plating is not worn through. There are no dents or bends. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight
The tray measures 10 x 6 x 1.2 inches (L x W x H) and weighs about 10.7 oz.
