Overview
A two-piece set of vintage Wedgwood jasperware in pale blue with white relief. The creamer jug has a grapevine band around the neck, and below it a frieze of classical figures: a woman holding a bird, Cupid on a pedestal, and women making offerings at an altar, divided by trees. It has a squared handle and a pouring spout, and the inside is glazed. The spade-shaped trinket dish has a central scene of classical figures with a winged horse, set inside a laurel border with small flowers. The matte blue body gives the white relief good contrast. The pair suits a vanity, dresser, shelf or tea tray, and the dish works well for rings or small keepsakes.
Background
Jasperware is the unglazed stoneware Wedgwood introduced in the 18th century, known for its colored bodies with white classical relief. Both pieces carry impressed Wedgwood marks. The creamer is impressed "WEDGWOOD" and "MADE IN ENGLAND" with additional small letters and numbers. The dish is impressed "WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND" with "1953" and "B". These marks are consistent with mid-20th-century production.
Condition
Good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There are a few small light brown surface marks on the dish's base rim and border. Please see all photos.
