Overview
A vintage three-piece silver plated tea set: a small creamer, an open sugar bowl and a tea strainer. The creamer and sugar bowl have round, low bodies with flared rims, and each stands on three cast legs with lion-head tops and paw feet. The creamer has a curved scroll handle and a pouring lip. The tea strainer has a pierced bowl and a wide border and handle decorated in relief with roses and leaves, with a hanging hole at the end. The strainer rests on the rim of the sugar bowl, so the set can be used together for loose-leaf tea. The pieces have a dark, warm tarnish with golden areas where the plating has worn, which suits a tea tray, coffee bar or display shelf.
Background
The creamer and sugar bowl are stamped "VICTORIA" with a crest mark on the base, a mark used by Taunton Silversmiths of Taunton, Massachusetts in the late 20th century. The tea strainer is a separate piece stamped "Made in Japan." The pieces are silver plated, with cast legs and handles, and the three together weigh 14.3 oz.
Condition
Good vintage condition with no dents, breaks or repairs. There is overall tarnish, and the silver plating is worn through in places on the bodies and inside the bowls, showing the yellow base metal. There are scratches on the bases, including a scratched mark on one base. The strainer has light wear. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight
The creamer measures 3 x 3.8 x 3 inches (H x W x D), with the width taken from the lip to the handle. The sugar bowl measures 2.5 x 3 x 3 inches (H x W x D). The tea strainer measures 4.8 x 2.6 x 0.8 inches (L x W x H). Together they weigh 14.3 oz (about 405 g).
