Overview
A charming pair of vintage silver-plated miniature salt and pepper shakers, crafted with a distinctive wide saucer silhouette and ornate engraved shoulders. Each shaker features a rounded base ringed with hand-chased floral and foliate scrolling motifs, topped by a tapered friction-fit cap with perforated dispensing holes. Displaying a rich blend of aged silver tones and warm metallic underpinnings, this functional tabletop pair adds authentic vintage character to Boho, Wabi-Sabi, and Eclectic dining tables or curio shelf displays.
Cultural & Artistic Background
Rooted in Silk Road decorative arts and South Asian bench metalworking traditions, these compact vessels reflect classical chasing and repoussé ornamentation. Historically produced both for daily household condiment use and export trade, silver-plated brass spice vessels of this style transformed everyday tableware into decorative art. The intricate engraved band surrounding the shoulder honors traditional floral vine patterns symbolizing abundance and hospitality.
Condition & Surface Character
Excellent structural integrity across both shakers with sturdy, flush-fitting bases.
Removable caps fit securely with smooth friction functionality for easy filling.
Natural, warm vintage tarnish, tarnish-gilt warmth, and light oxidation settle elegantly into the carved relief grooves.
Faint micro-scratching on the silver-plated exterior surface consistent with light age and handling.
