Overview
A vintage hand-painted picture on silk showing a golden pheasant perched on a blossoming branch. The bird is painted in gold, orange-red and green, with small blue-white flowers and green leaves. Signed "Latour" at lower right. It comes in a dark wood frame with a beaded inner edge, a cream mat and a glass front.
Background
Decorative bird paintings on silk were popular from the mid-20th century. They blend Western bird-study styles with Chinoiserie flower-and-bird themes. Golden pheasants are a classic subject in decorative art. The artist is identified only by the signature.
Condition
The silk panel has good color, with no visible fading, stains or tears. The frame has scuffs and small losses along the top edge and corners. The kraft paper backing has two torn areas near the lower right. The hanging wire is attached. Please see all photos.
