Substantial and visually captivating, this vessel is ideal for shelf styling, mantle display, or curating fine decorative art collections. Complimentary, fully insured standard shipping is included with your order. Deep Cultural & Historical Background This piece synthesizes two celebrated East Asian decorative traditions: fine gold dust lacquer paintwork (Maki-e) and relief-carved lacquer craft. The interior scene pays tribute to Mount Fuji (Fuji-san), a sacred emblem of permanence, spiritual transcendence, and natural majesty. The surrounding evergreen pine branches (Matsu) symbolize longevity and unwavering resilience through all seasons. The carved exterior displays the timeless pairing of the plum blossom (Ume) and songbird (Uguisu), classical harbingers of spring, renewal, and hope. The relief technique builds dimensional depth on the vessel's underside, finished in subtle bronze-red highlights over a matte charcoal-grey body, extending even into a carved branch motif within the foot ring. Condition & Surface Character The cup is in excellent vintage condition. The interior red lacquer maintains brilliant shine and vibrant color retention with delicate, intact gold line work. The exterior high-relief carving exhibits crisp dimensional detail with rich patination and minimal handling wear across the footed base.
