Overview
An original issue of The New York Times from Saturday, March 29, 1969, reporting the death of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States and the Allied commander in Europe during World War II. The banner headline reports that he died at 78 of heart failure and that funeral rites would begin that day. A large portrait photograph of Eisenhower, captioned with his name and the years 1890-1969, fills the right side of the front page. Front-page stories cover the burial plans in Kansas, President Nixon's eulogy in the Capitol Rotunda, and French President de Gaulle attending the funeral. It displays well framed on a wall, or kept with a presidential or military history collection in a library or study.
