Overview
A vintage Middle Eastern copper bowl with engraved decoration around the outside. The sides carry several round medallions engraved with seated figures and leafy detail, separated by flowers and dotted scroll motifs, and the base is engraved with a rosette. The interior has a silvery tin lining that has turned a soft blue-green with age, which sets off the warm copper outside. The rim is rolled with a narrow band below it. It suits a shelf, coffee table or sideboard, either on its own or with other metalwork.
Background
Engraved copper bowls with tinned interiors have long been made as everyday and decorative vessels across the Middle East. This bowl is unmarked. The engraving is done by hand with fine lines and punched dots, and the copper has a natural, uneven patina.
Condition
Good vintage condition with no significant damage. There is wear to the engraving and patina on the outside, and the tin lining inside has blue-green discoloration and some spotting. It is not cleaned or polished. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight
The bowl measures 2.6 x 7.2 x 7.2 inches (H x W x D) and weighs about 10 oz.
