Overview
A vintage brass perpetual desk calendar, made in India to cover the 20 years from 1964 to 1983. The round disc has a scalloped edge and engraved leaf and floral borders, with red and black paint in the engraved lines. Two rotating dials sit on a central brass screw: you set the year over the month, then the days of the week line up with the dates. The center reads "For 20 Yrs. Calendar 1964 to 1983", with the instructions "Place year over month" and "Red month for leap yrs". A folding brass easel on the back holds it upright on a desk, shelf or bookcase.
Background
Engraved and painted brass perpetual calendars were popular desk pieces in the mid-20th century. The back of this one is stamped "Made in India", and its 1964-1983 year range dates it to around 1964. The disc, screw, nut and easel are all brass.
Condition
Good vintage condition. Both dials turn and the easel holds it upright. There is wear and toning to the brass, darker on the back, and some loss to the red and black paint in the engraved lines. Please see all photos.
