Overview
A hand-painted Indian painting on cloth, in the style of Rajasthani miniature painting. Krishna, with a crown and a green halo, stands with his arms folded as three gopis (attendants) approach him. Two of the gopis hold round fans. The night landscape has flowering trees, hills and a lotus pond along the bottom. A border of gold-tone leaves and flowers surrounds the scene. The painting is on cloth mounted on board, under glass, in a gold-painted wood frame.
Background
The back carries the label of Lakshana, an Indian manufacturer, exporter and picture framer. From a Washington, DC estate. Unsigned and undated; circa 1970s-1980s. A companion to our Radha Krishna painting (BA-1239).
Condition
Good vintage condition. The painting has good color and fine detail on the faces, jewelry and sari patterns. The frame has paint chips and scuffs, mainly at the corners and edges. The backing paper is torn at the top-left corner and along the right edge. Hanging cord attached. Please see all photos.
