Overview A striking 14-inch hand-painted ceramic charger showcasing bold cobalt blue botanical blooms framed by a stylized scrollwork border. Handcrafted from tin-glazed earthenware, this vibrant wall plate features vivid cobalt flora with warm amber centers and soft green foliage on an off-white field. Ideal for anchoring a rustic mantel display, wall gallery, or sideboard centerpiece. Complimentary, fully insured domestic shipping is included with purchase. Deep Cultural & Historical Background Inspired by historic European majolica and Iberian tin-glazed earthenware traditions (faience and talavera), this decorative charger demonstrates classic underglaze brushwork techniques. Artisans shape the piece from earthenware clay, coat it in an opaque tin glaze, and apply mineral pigment paints—notably cobalt oxide for the signature rich sapphire hues—before a secondary high-temperature firing. The central floral bouquet draws upon regional folk art iconography, symbolizing vitality, abundance, and domestic hospitality. Condition & Surface Character The charger is in excellent vintage condition with strong structural integrity. The glazed finish exhibits fine, uniform age-appropriate crazing throughout, serving as an authentic hallmark of vintage tin-glazed studio pottery. The reverse shows clean glaze work over an unglazed foot ring with minor hand-painted production markings.
