Overview This vintage hand-carved wooden figurine presents a stylized, elongated rooster featuring a prominent crest, large wattle, and incised chest feather details with a crossed diamond symbol motif. Rendered in a dark, matte-finished hardwood, this piece bridges ethnographic folk art traditions with modern sculptural minimalism. An intriguing decorative accent for Global Eclectic, Modern Rustic, Primitive, or Wabi-Sabi interior styling, it serves as a subtle, character-rich addition to bookshelves, entry consoles, or desk vignettes.
Cultural & Artistic Background Reflecting global folk art and primitive woodcarving traditions, this figurine emphasizes graphic abstraction rather than anatomical realism. The carver utilized direct hand-chisel work to shape the slim, standing bird form, carving distinct grooves across the chest to mimic hackle feathers alongside geometric incised markings. The dark patinated surface highlight hand-tooled tool marks, making it a versatile piece that complements both rustic folk collections and mid-century art environments.
Condition & Surface Character The sculpture remains in sound structural condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs. The wood exhibits a dark, unpolished matte finish with natural grain texture, gentle surface handling wear, and minor dust in carved recesses consistent with age. The flattened base keeps the figure stable and upright.
