Overview
A large vintage silverplate round serving tray by English Silver Mfg. Corp. The wide border is engraved all around with scrolling leaves, scallop shells, flowers and panels of fine crosshatched lattice. The engraving frames a plain round center. A raised gadrooned rope-twist rim runs around the edge. At nearly 18 inches across, it is big enough to carry a full tea or coffee service, or to hold decanters and glasses on a bar cart or sideboard.
Background
Large engraved round trays like this were a staple of American silverplate tableware in the mid-20th century, used for tea service and entertaining. The underside is stamped "English Silver Mfg. Corp. 75 Made in U.S.A.", with a shield mark on one side and a profile bust on the other. The base metal is copper, silverplated, and the tray is not magnetic. It weighs 3 lb 1.9 oz.
Condition
Good vintage condition, with honest wear. There is a small dent on the rim at about the 11 o'clock position. The plating is worn in a few spots on the face, showing the copper underneath, mostly in and around the engraving. There are surface scratches in the plain center, including two small scratch marks. The underside has heavy mottled tarnish. Please see all photos.
