Overview
A vintage embossed copper plaque showing an underwater scene. A large angelfish with long, finely lined fins swims at the center, with a seahorse beside a spotted coral or sponge on the left, a small school of fish at the upper right, and sea plants, a starfish and a shell along the bottom. The copper has a warm tone with darker shading in the background that makes the raised design stand out. It suits a small wall space, a shelf or a plate stand, and would fit a coastal, bathroom or mid-century room.
Background
Embossed copper wall plaques with nature and sea-life scenes were popular home decor in the mid-20th century. This one is made from a single sheet of copper pressed with the design, with the edges folded back neatly at the corners. The back is painted black and shows the reverse of the relief. It is unmarked and has no hanger.
Condition
Good vintage condition with no tears, splits or bends. There is uneven patina and darker spots across the surface, light scratches, and some wear and scuffing on the folded edges and the painted back. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight
The plaque measures about 8 x 6 inches (W x H) and is about 0.25 inch thick. It weighs about 6 oz.
