Overview Bring the joyful warmth of Central Asian hospitality to your shelf or desk display with this charming pair of vintage hand-painted clay figurines. Sculpted with expressive facial features and cheerful smiles, the statuettes depict traditional aksakal (revered village elders) bearing feast offerings—one holding a yellow-striped Central Asian melon, and the other presenting a platter of plov (traditional rice pilaf). Outfitted in detailed chapan robes with paisley patterns and traditional embroidered tubeteika (doppa) skullcaps, this hand-crafted set brings vibrant color and rich cultural character to any folk art collection.
Cultural & Artistic Background Hailing from historic ceramic traditions along the Silk Road (such as those of Samarkand, Tashkent, and Rishtan), miniature clay figurines depicting humorous, hospitable elders are a cornerstone of Central Asian folk craft. These figures embody the spirit of aksakal (literally "white beard"), figures respected for wisdom and hospitality. Artisans hand-shape local clay before painting intricate details that honor regional attire—specifically the quilt-patterned chapan coat and the square patterned tubeteika cap—celebrating the region's famed culinary heritage and agrarian abundance.
