Overview A matching trio of heavy hand-wrought pewter round serving trays featuring stepped reeded rims and flat central basins. Handcrafted in Indonesia from high-grade Banka tin, these versatile Mid-Century chargers blend architectural clean lines with substantial tactile weight. Ideal as charger plates, entryway catchall trays, candle displays, or sideboard serving accents. Deep Cultural & Historical Background Bangka Island in the Indonesian archipelago is world-renowned for yielding exceptional high-purity tin ore. Mid-century Indonesian metalsmiths perfected specialized lathe-spinning and cold-hammering methods, developing non-tarnishing pewter formulations known as "Formula 60." These substantial 10.2-inch platters reflect the mid-century global movement toward functional minimal metalware, bridging traditional regional smelting heritage with sleek Western dining and hostware trends. Stamped on the underside with the cursive signature and official maker cartouche reading THE BANKA TIN WITH FORMULA 60 NON-TARNISH NON-BLACK / HAND-WROUGHT MADE IN INDONESIA, this trio embodies authentic Southeast Asian mid-century craftsmanship suitable for Japandi, Modern Organic, and Wabi-Sabi interiors. Condition & Surface Character All three platters exhibit robust structural condition with solid heft, level bases, and straight rims. The spun pewter surfaces present natural age-appropriate wear, including superficial stacking scuffs, light surface oxidation, and soft matte patination consistent with vintage tinware. The underside hallmark stamps remain distinct, and one tray retains an original paper price label from period retail distribution.
