Overview
A vintage sterling silver ring set with an oval black cabochon, believed to be onyx. The smooth, domed stone sits in a plain bezel framed by a twisted rope border. On each side, the shoulder splits into three wires, and each wire ends in a small silver ball where it meets the setting. Darker patina in the recesses makes the rope detail and the polished edges stand out. It is a classic Southwestern-style design that works as an everyday ring or as part of a stack.
Background
Sterling silver rings set with black onyx have been a popular style for decades, and rope borders and split shanks are common details in Southwestern-style silverwork. The inside of the band is stamped "925" for sterling silver, along with an unidentified maker's mark. The stone has not been tested; it has the look of black onyx. The setting has a closed back.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The stone is secure, with no chips or cracks seen, and the band is round and straight. There is light surface wear and tarnish consistent with age and use. Please see all photos.
