Overview A vintage hand-carved wooden relief plaque showing a woodland scene. On the left, a stag with a full set of antlers stands among leafy branches. In the center are a tall forked tree, a small evergreen and a squirrel in the grass. On the right, a nude woman stands beside a pond with reeds and lily pads, one arm raised to her long hair. The leaves, grass and water are finished with fine gouge work. The wood has a warm reddish-brown finish. It suits a wall, a shelf or a mantel.
Background Carved relief plaques with nature and figure scenes were popular hand-made decorative pieces in the mid-20th century. This plaque is carved into the lower right margin with the signature and date "C. Kraft 42," for 1942. The back is plain, with beveled edges.
Condition Good vintage condition, and the plaque is structurally sound. There are a few minor age-related marks, including light wear along the edges and a little whitish residue in some of the carved recesses. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight It measures 4.8 x 10.2 x 0.8 inches (H x W x D) and weighs about 10.4 oz.
