Overview
A rectangular wooden box covered in embossed brass sheet, made in India and sold by Foreside. The gently arched lid has a large floral medallion in the center, set in a diamond lattice of small flowers, and the sides carry an all-over pattern of small flowers. The box opens on two rear hinges, and a dark metal chain holds the lid open. The inside is plain dark-stained wood with no lining, and there is no latch. The bottom is uncovered dark-stained wood.
Background
The bottom carries the original labels "FORESIDE Made in India" and "BRASS BOX CHRYSANTHEMUM" with a stock number. Foreside is an American home-decor company, and embossed brass-covered wooden boxes like this are a common style of Indian decorative metalwork.
Condition
Good used condition. The lid closes flat, and the chain holds it open. The brass has a darkened patina with green verdigris spots and some white residue on the lid, and there is a small black mark in the center of the lid. The brass edge along the bottom rim is ragged and lifting in places, mainly at one front corner. The bottom wood has light scuffs and a few small marks. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight
The box is 4.8 inches high, 10.1 inches wide and 6.5 inches deep (H x W x D). It weighs about 2 lb 11 oz.
