Overview

An antique silver plated small teapot and covered sugar bowl by the Meriden Britannia Company. Both pieces have straight-sided bodies with reeded bands at the top and base, and lids topped with acorn finials. The pot has a hinged lid, a curved spout and a scroll handle fitted with two light-colored insulator rings. The sugar bowl has two loop handles and a lift-off lid. The plain, clean lines suit a breakfast tray, tea table or display shelf.

Background

The Meriden Britannia Company of Meriden, Connecticut was one of the largest American makers of silver plated tableware in the late 1800s, before it became part of the International Silver Co. in 1898. Both bases are stamped with the Meriden B. Company scales mark, "Quadruple Plate," and the number 1837, which is the pattern number, not a date. The pieces are silver plated, and together they weigh 1 lb 5.9 oz.

Condition

Good antique condition with no dents, breaks or repairs. The pot lid hinge works and closes properly, and the handles are secure. There is overall tarnish and surface scratching, with a worn, scratched patch on the side of the pot near the spout and some spotting inside the pot lid. Please see all photos.

Dimensions & Weight

The pot measures 6 x 5.5 x 2.4 inches (H x W x D), with the width taken from the spout to the handle. The sugar bowl measures 3.8 x 5 x 2.2 inches (H x W x D), with the width taken across the handles. Together they weigh 1 lb 5.9 oz (about 621 g).
