Overview An exquisite centerpiece of early sound reproduction technology, this vintage His Master's Voice (HMV) tabletop wind-up gramophone is housed in a handsome quarter-sawn oak cabinet with a rich, warm amber stain. Exemplifying classic Edwardian industrial elegance, the piece features a domed hinged lid, front sound-projection doors, side compartment access, and an authentic hand-crank winding mechanism. Perfectly suited as a statement accent for classic library study spaces, traditional restoration interiors, or warm acoustic music lounges.
Cultural & Artistic Background Produced by The Gramophone Company Ltd during the golden age of mechanical sound, HMV instruments represent a watershed moment in early 20th-century home music history. Complete with the celebrated "His Master's Voice" insignia depicting Nipper the dog inside the upper lid, this model highlights the acoustic craftsmanship of the pre-electronic era. The cabinet showcases fine woodworking with prominent quarter-sawn oak ray flecks, molded cornices, and integrated sound-amplifying internal wooden louvers concealed behind dual front cabinet doors.
Condition & Surface Character • Structural integrity remains solid across the heavy oak cabinet, showing light vintage surface wear, minor edge scuffs, and natural finish patination appropriate for its age. • Original internal tone arm, bright red felt turntable mat, speed adjustment levers, and HMV graphic decal remain remarkably intact, accompanied by authentic vintage needle tins. • Hand crank winds smoothly, hinged upper lid stays securely supported on its metal bracket arm, and both front sound doors and side utility door open and close fluidly.
