Wallace Silversmiths Silver Plated Musical Carousel 4 Horses Music Box Working 9 in

Overview

A Wallace Silversmiths silver-plated musical carousel with four horses that turn around a central column while the music plays. The canopy has diamond-lattice panels, raised flower sprays, oval rose medallions and a scalloped border, and it is topped with a fleur-de-lis finial. Each horse has a modeled saddle, bridle and flowing mane, and the horses ride on twisted poles above a round mirrored platform. The base is decorated with scrolling leaves, flowers and lattice panels and stands on four curved feet. It suits a mantel, sideboard, bookshelf or curio cabinet, and it makes a ready gift.

Background

Carousel music boxes take their look from the decorated merry-go-rounds of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Wallace Silversmiths, an American silverware maker, produced silver-plated giftware such as music boxes and ornaments, and this carousel is one of its musical pieces. The underside is covered in blue velvet-like fabric with the impressed "© Wallace ©" mark and an oval metal emblem. It is heavy for its size, at about 4 lb 2 oz.

Condition

Good pre-owned condition. The music plays and the horses turn. The plating is bright, with light surface wear and handling marks, and the blue fabric underside shows some lint and wear. Please see all photos.

Dimensions & Weight

The carousel stands 9 inches tall and is about 6.5 inches in diameter. It weighs about 4 lb 2.2 oz.
