Description
A magnificent vintage German porcelain basket by the esteemed Von Schierholz factory in Plaue. Standing 10 inches tall, this substantial centerpiece combines intricate molded details with the hand-painted artistry for which Thuringian porcelain is famous.
The body features a "woven" basketweave texture adorned with vibrant, hand-painted bouquets of summer flowers in purple, orange, and blue. Above this, the flared rim is crafted with openwork reticulated lattice (pierced porcelain), outlined generously in gold. A high, arching handle rises from the center, decorated with molded "rope" texture and heavy gold accents, giving the piece a graceful, architectural silhouette.
Key features:
Maker's Mark: Clearly stamped with the blue shield mark: "C.G. Schierholz & Sohn - Plaue - Schwarzburg".
Form: Complex boat-shaped bowl with open reticulated sides and a high central handle.
Decor: Hand-painted Deutsche Blumen (German Flowers) on a molded basketweave ground.
Gilding: Rich 24k-style gold trim on the rim, handle, and base foot.
Structure: The handle is integrated into the body, creating a sturdy yet elegant form.
This is a classic example of high-quality German porcelain, perfect for serving fruit, holding a floral arrangement, or standing alone as a centerpiece on a dining table or sideboard.
