Overview
A vintage hand-hammered copper pot with a tinned interior. It has a wide, flat base and a body that narrows as it rises to a straight neck with incised lines, topped by a broad flat rim that flares outward. The outside has a warm copper color with hammer marks across the body and base, while the inside keeps much of its silver-tone tinning, with green verdigris in places. It has no handles, which gives it a clean, simple outline. It suits a kitchen shelf, hearth, sideboard or console, and it works well as a planter cover, utensil holder or display piece.
Background
Hand-hammered, tin-lined copper pots like this were everyday cookware across Turkey and the wider Middle East, and the inside was tinned so the copper could be used with food. This pot is unmarked. It is hand hammered from sheet copper, with incised lines around the neck and a tinned interior and rim, and it weighs 2 lb 6.3 oz.
Condition
Good vintage condition with no significant damage, and it should be able to hold water. There is a dark line where the rim meets the neck, a pale patch of old solder or tin on the neck, and scratch marks inside the upper wall. The tinning is worn in places, with green oxidation inside, and the outside has small dents, scuffs and some dark spots, mostly on the base. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight
The pot is 7 inches high and 9.2 inches across the base. It weighs 2 lb 6.3 oz.
