Wheel-thrown from iron-rich stoneware clay, the rounded vessel features a textured chocolate-brown body capped with a fluid golden-ochre drip glaze cascading along the neck and shoulder. Perfectly proportioned for styling on an open bookshelf, mantel feature, or credenza centerpiece, this piece integrates into Wabi-Sabi, Japandi, and Mid-Century Modern interiors. Purchase includes complimentary, fully insured standard shipping. Deep Cultural & Historical Background Rooted in the 20th-century Studio Pottery revival, this vessel reflects the influence of regional ceramic guilds and folk stoneware traditions. The piece was raised on a potter's wheel and fired at high kiln temperatures to achieve dense vitreous durability. Its dark, grain-textured surface body contrasts with the reactive ochre-yellow glaze, creating a natural drip aesthetic achieved during the molten glaze phase in the kiln. The bottom of the vessel carries an incised studio maker mark monogrammed "DC", signifying hand-crafted artisan origin and singular authenticity within modern studio craft movement traditions. Condition & Surface Character The vessel retains excellent structural integrity with no chips, hairline cracks, or structural restorations. The matte stoneware body displays natural micro-pitting, speckled mineral variations, and subtle surface firing color shifts inherent to artisanal handcrafting. The glaze remains bright and securely bonded along the rim, and the flat base features clear black artist glaze brushwork.
