Overview
A tall vintage church altar floor candlestick, standing 41 inches. It has a stepped, domed round base cast with stylized lotus and leaf motifs, a slim two-part column, and a large central knop with a notched rim. Banded collars with a leaf-and-arch pattern mark each joint. At the top, a wide round drip pan holds a candle socket with a matching decorated rim. The finish is a silver-tone satin metal, with a grayer, mottled patina on the cast base. It suits a hearth, an entryway or a corner, or a spot beside a sideboard, and it stands well on its own as a single statement piece.
Background
Tall floor candlesticks like this were made for church altars and sanctuaries, where they stood on the floor beside the altar. This one is made in sections held together by a central threaded rod, with the nut visible under the base. The underside has the raised casting mark "PATTERN NO 26"; the line above it is worn and not legible, so the maker is unidentified. It is non-magnetic and light for its size at about 7.4 lb, which points to cast aluminum; iron or zinc of this size would be much heavier.
Condition
Good vintage condition. It stands straight with no wobble, and there are no breaks or visible repairs. There is general wear to the finish, darker staining on the lower part of the central knop, a few small spots on the lower column, and light marks on the drip pan. Please see all photos.
