Overview
Original mixed-media portrait of a clown with two white cats, signed lower right by San Francisco artist Albina Marie Meredith. The painted clown face sits in a background of torn tissue and fibrous paper collage in brown, orange and green, with two printed cat images applied as part of the collage. Framed in a cream-finish metal frame with a gold-tone edge.
Background
The back carries the artist's studio card (Albina Marie Meredith, Artist - Painter - Teacher, Sutter Street, San Francisco), a handwritten note naming the piece "Mr Jones" and "Friends", and a label from Interior Frame & Moulding Co. on Geary Blvd, San Francisco. Undated; the labels suggest circa 1960s-1970s.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The collage and paint are intact with light age toning to the paper. The frame has small chips and scuffs, mainly on the top and bottom edges, and light wear to the metal edge. The backing paper shows age wear around the taped labels. Hanging wire attached.
