Overview
A vintage silverplate water pitcher by The Sheffield Silver Co. It has a rounded body with a raised band of fan shells and scrolls around the shoulder. A wide flared spout sits above the band, and the body rests on a stepped round foot. The angular handle ends in a small scroll at the base. The surface has a warm golden tone from age, with darker shading in the decorative band. It suits a dining table, sideboard, bar cart or shelf, and can be used for water or flowers.
Background
The Sheffield Silver Co. was an American silverplate maker founded in Brooklyn, New York, and later part of Reed & Barton. The firm marked its pieces with English-style symbols. The base of this pitcher is stamped with a script S, a crown, a helmeted head, EPNS in four boxes (electroplated nickel silver) and the number 50. There are also small hand-scratched marks near the stamps.
Condition
Good vintage condition with no dents, and no plating worn through to the base metal. The surface has overall tarnish and fine scratches across the body and foot from use and polishing. The interior shows light water spotting. It has not been polished. Please see all photos.
