Vintage hand-turned segmented wood lidded jar with a bold checkerboard pattern.
The body is built from small blocks of contrasting light and dark woods, glued up in offset rows and then turned on a lathe, so the checkerboard shows on both the outside and the inside of the jar. It sits on a turned solid-wood foot. The fitted lid is also segmented, with incised concentric rings on top and a round turned knob. The underside of the lid has a striped laminated panel in pale and reddish wood, with two small fasteners holding the knob.
Useful as a trinket or keepsake jar, a desk organizer, or simply a warm, graphic accent on a shelf. A nice example of segmented woodturning.
SIZE: approx. 4.5 in tall x 4.2 in diameter
CONDITION: Pre-owned vintage condition. Structurally sound; the lid fits and the knob is secure. Please note an open seam crack running down one side just below the lid, and a small chip in one block. The lid top has light scratches and general handling wear. Please see all photos.
