Overview

A vintage silverplate covered sugar bowl by Poole, in a classic urn shape. The rounded body sits on a stepped pedestal foot, with a raised band around the middle and a wide collar at the top. Two tall scroll handles with leaf details rise from the sides, and the domed lid is topped by a small urn-shaped finial with a leaf tip. The surface has natural toning in blue, gold and warm tones, and the inside is bright. It suits a tea or coffee tray, a sideboard or a display shelf.

Background

Poole Silver Co. of Taunton, Massachusetts, made silverplate tableware and hollowware through much of the 20th century, and covered sugar bowls like this were made to go with tea and coffee services. The underside is stamped "EPCA / SILVERPLATE / BY POOLE / 1030"; EPCA stands for electroplate on copper alloy, and 1030 is the model number. The lid lifts off and sits on the collar of the bowl.

Condition

Good vintage condition with no dents or repairs seen. The silverplate has natural toning, including warm coppery tones on the lower body and lid. The inside is bright, with a few small spots and a light ring at the bottom. Please see all photos.
