Overview
A vintage round silverplate tray in the Old English pattern by Poole Silver Company. The wide center is decorated with chased scrolls, leafy plumes and small flower clusters, set around a plain round area with no monogram. A deep sloped wall leads up to a flat band and a raised, scalloped rim with cast scroll, leaf and shell ornament. The deep well and raised rim keep glasses and small items in place. At 12 inches across, it suits a bar cart, sideboard, dresser or dining table as a drinks tray, a candle or perfume tray, or a serving piece.
Background
Poole Silver Company of Taunton, Massachusetts was an American maker of silverplate tableware, and Old English was one of its best-known patterns. The underside is stamped "EPCA / Old English / By Poole / 5017". EPCA marks silver plate over a copper alloy base. The tray is silver plate, not sterling silver.
Condition
Good vintage condition with no breaks, dents or repairs seen. The top has surface scratches, mostly in the plain center, and some darker tarnish spots on the flat band and rim. The underside has tarnish, scratches and a small pale spot. The carved wooden pieces in the photos are display props and are not included. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight
The tray is 12 inches in diameter and 1.8 inches high (1.8 x 12 x 12 inches, H x W x D) and weighs 1 lb 13.8 oz.
