Overview Bursting with vibrant color and classic Italian artisanal character, this vintage Murano art glass clown figurine features a ribbed, melon-form ruby red torso framed by a flared emerald green leaf collar. Hand-blown on the island of Murano, Italy, the whimsical character is crowned with a jaunty black top hat, opaque yellow hair, and detailed white gloved hands. It serves as a captivating statement piece for credenza styling, mantel arrangements, or curated art glass displays, complete with complimentary, fully insured standard shipping. Deep Cultural & Historical Background This figurine exemplifies the post-war mid-century Venetian glassmaking renaissance, when master glassblowers transformed classic Commedia dell'arte theatrical archetypes into expressive sculptural home accents. The piece was crafted using multi-stage furnace techniques: the bulbous body was molded with vertical fluting (canneté) to catch ambient light, while hot-applied glass (applicato a caldo) was hand-shaped to construct the layered green collar, facial features, top hat, and resting dark blue base. This layered glass assembly highlights the technical versatility and playful spirit central to 20th-century Murano glass art. Condition & Surface Character The figurine is in excellent vintage condition, exhibiting high brilliance and structural integrity across all glass elements. There are no chips, cracks, stress fractures, or surface restorations. The underside of the dark glass foot base is fitted with protective non-marking felt grip pads to safeguard furniture surfaces while providing stable display.
