Overview A matching pair of Japanese carved hardwood netsuke figurines, depicting crouching, stalking tigers with expressive turned heads. Combining dynamic animalier modeling with fine textural detail, these miniature sculptures bring organic elegance to Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, and Global Eclectic interior settings. Perfectly suited for display on curio shelves, accent altars, or executive desk trays. Cultural & Artistic Background Rooted in classical Japanese netsuke carving and zodiac iconography (Tora / Tiger representing courage and strength), this matched set highlights remarkable relief technique. Each tiger is sculpted in a low crouching stance with an arched tail swept over its back, muscle modeling, and incised gilded stripe details across a dark stained body. The hind flank of each piece features an inlaid circular seal plaque bearing a hand-rendered red kanji artist signature mark, while the undersides feature carved paws and dual himotoshi cord channels. Condition & Surface Character Both figurines are structurally sound, dense, and preserved without cracks, chips, or restoration. The dark espresso-stained hardwood finish is highlighted by fine gold/amber etched body stripes, creating high visual contrast. Polished surface handling wear remains smooth across both pieces, preserving crisp facial features and tail details.
