Overview
A vintage round silverplate tray by International Silver Company of Meriden, Connecticut. The center is decorated with a wide band of chased scrolls, acanthus leaves, small flowers, shell motifs and cross-hatched panels, leaving a plain round area in the middle with no monogram. A twisted gadroon border runs around the raised rim, set off by a smooth inner band. The top still has a bright silver finish, with light tarnish in the recesses of the pattern. At 10.4 inches across, it suits a bar cart, dresser or coffee table as a drinks tray, a perfume or candle tray, or a place for keys and small things.
Background
International Silver Company was formed in Meriden, Connecticut in 1898 and became one of the largest American makers of silverplate tableware in the 20th century. The underside is stamped "International Silver Co." and still carries the blue and white factory label reading "Inspector No. 09, Finest Quality, Handcrafted, Hand Inspected, International Silver Company, Meriden, Connecticut U.S.A.", which points to the mid to late 20th century. The tray is silver plate over a base metal, not sterling silver.
Condition
Good vintage condition with no breaks or repairs seen. The top has surface scratches, mostly in the plain center, a few small dark spots, and light tarnish in the pattern. The underside has heavy tarnish, scratches, and leftover adhesive where a second label was removed. The carved wooden pieces in the photos are display props and are not included. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight
The tray is 10.4 inches in diameter and 0.6 inches high (0.6 x 10.4 x 10.4 inches, H x W x D) and weighs 13.6 oz.
