Vintage Indian Wood Marquetry Box Set Elephant & Court Musician Keepsake 6"

Cultural & Historical Provenance
Bring the rich narrative heritage of traditional Indian decorative arts into your home curation with this beautifully matched pair of vintage handcrafted wood marquetry boxes. Hand-assembled by skilled woodworkers, these pieces showcase the meticulous art of Sada or timber veneer inlay, an elite woodcraft tradition that has flourished for centuries across regional craft centers in Northern India.
Instead of surface paint, each lid functions as a mini-canvas formed by precision hand-cutting and flush-setting contrasting light-toned wood veneers into the dense, beautifully grained tropical hardwood bases.
This curated pair highlights two classic pillars of Indian cultural iconography:
The Royal Musician Vignette: The lighter wood chest portrays a courtly couple resting against a traditional bolster cushion (masnad), with the female figure gently strumming a classic stringed instrument—evoking the romantic, poetic atmosphere of classical Mughal or Rajput miniature court paintings.
The Majestic Elephant Caravan: The deeper-toned rosewood chest depicts a stately mother and calf elephant marching together with raised trunks. In Indian culture, elephants are revered symbols of royalty, deep wisdom, power, and auspicious beginnings.
Left with their clean, unlined natural wood interiors, these matching 6-inch boxes provide a highly texturized, narrative accent suite that anchors Hollywood Regency, global bohemian, or traditional British Colonial interior vignettes.
