Vintage Indian rosewood inlay wall plaque in the Mysore style, with a small wooden easel stand included.
The Scene
A village woman in a green blouse and orange sari leans over to pour water from a clay pot into a large basin, where four lambs (one tan, three cream) crowd in to drink. Birds and grasses are picked out in light inlay lines. The figures are made from inset pieces of contrasting wood and light inlay with fine black line detailing and a little painted color.
The dark rosewood has a glossy finish and rich grain. The back is plain wood with a drilled hole near the top for hanging. No maker's marks.
Includes
The small dark wooden folding easel stand shown in the photos, so it can be displayed on a shelf or table as well as hung.
SIZE: approx. 9 x 5.8 x 0.6 in (plaque)
CONDITION: Pre-owned vintage condition. All inlay pieces are present and the colors are bright. There is a small rough chip or blemish at the top center of the front (above where the hanging hole is on the back). The front has noticeable surface scratches and a few whitish scuffs, and the rim shows light wear. Please see all photos.
A warm, charming piece of Indian village life for a shelf, mantel or wall.
