Overview
This pair of vintage hand-painted lacquer wood trinket boxes brings rich storytelling, artisanal charm, and vivid color to shelf styling, credenzas, or vanity trays. Featuring two distinct geometries—a domed round vessel and a rounded-corner rectangular container—this set anchors Global Eclectic, Boho, and Maximalist interior spaces with authentic hand-crafted warmth.
Cultural & Artistic Background
Originating from traditional South Asian lacquerware and miniature painting traditions, each vessel serves as a canvas for classical royal narrative art. The red rectangular box portrays a grand royal procession featuring an adorned elephant bearing a canopy howdah accompanied by court attendants holding banners. The domed black vessel presents fine miniature brushwork depicting equestrian figures and warrior motifs, set against fine gold-tone hatched detailing. A vintage paper export sticker remains preserved on the underside of the circular piece.
Condition & Surface Character
Both containers remain structurally sound and complete with well-fitted removable lids. The glossy lacquer finishes exhibit light vintage surface wear, minor edge rubbing, and fine micro-crazing consistent with authentic age and historic handling. The interior cavities are finished in a clean, smooth black protective coating.
