Description
A dynamic and beautifully detailed vintage hand-carved rosewood water buffalo figurine – a classic symbol of strength and serenity in Eastern art.
This specific piece is distinguished by its expressive pose; the buffalo is reclining but has its head turned sharply upward, as if baying or looking at the moon. Like the others, it features fine incised lines representing the animal's hair and a small conical hat (coolie hat) resting on its back.
Key features:
Rich, reddish-brown rosewood construction with detailed texture
distinct upward-looking pose with curved horns
Unique Base: Unlike standard rectangular plinths, this piece sits on a custom-carved, irregular-shaped black wooden base that resembles a leaf or rocky terrain.
Conical hat detail carved in relief on the back
Inlaid or painted eyes adding life to the expression
The piece is in excellent vintage condition with a glossy patina. It retains its original tag string (visible in photos). The carving on the base adds a higher level of artistic detail compared to standard block stands.
A wonderful decorative miniature, perfect for a collector looking for a variation in pose and display style.
