Overview
A vintage Gorham silverplate footed bowl in the classic Paul Revere shape. The bowl has a flared rim, a smooth rounded body and a stepped round foot. The front is engraved in script as a bowling team award, reading "Bowling Capt." and "1959-60" below a first name. The polished surface is bright and reflective. It works well as a small serving or nut bowl, a catchall on a desk or entry table, or a display piece for anyone who collects bowling or sports memorabilia.
Background
The Paul Revere bowl shape is based on a famous 18th-century silver bowl by the Boston silversmith Paul Revere, and many American silver companies made versions of it through the 20th century, often as awards and gifts. Gorham was founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1831. This bowl is marked on the underside with the script "Gorham" mark, "E P" with an anchor in a shield, and the model number YC778.
Condition
Good vintage condition with light wear. There are fine scratches and polishing marks, and some small dark spots on the interior floor. The engraved letters show a gold tone. The underside has remains of an old paper label. There are no dents. Please see all photos.
Dimensions & Weight
The bowl measures 2.8 x 5 x 5 inches (H x W x D) and weighs about 8.7 oz.
