Overview
A framed miniature woven rug in the classic Oriental carpet style. A vase of flowers sits in the ivory center field, with floral sprays in each corner, surrounded by layered borders in burgundy, rose, gold, green and cream, with white fringe at both ends. Mounted on a pale aqua-green mat under glass in an ornate gold-tone frame.
Background
Miniature woven "carpets" like this were popular framed souvenirs and decor pieces, copying the look of full-size Persian and Turkish rugs at a small scale. The vase-of-flowers design is a traditional carpet motif. This piece is machine woven with a fine, silky-looking weave. Unsigned, with no maker's label.
Condition
