Overview This pair of vintage hand-painted wooden wall crosses exemplifies the iconic La Palma folk art movement of Central America. Vibrant color blocking, stylized communal figures, peaceful dove iconography, and cheerful flora and fauna bring a warm, storytelling energy to interior spaces. Ideally suited for gallery wall compositions, entryway accents, or spiritual altar arrangements, these pieces integrate effortlessly into Global Eclectic, Boho, and Modern Primitive decor aesthetics. Cultural & Artistic Background Pioneered in the mountain town of La Palma, El Salvador, by renowned artist Fernando Llort in the 1970s, this celebrated artistic movement utilizes bright pigments and bold black outlines to depict rural life, communal unity, and natural harmony. The larger cross features a gathering of diverse faces rendered above a peaceful white dove held in protective hands, finished on the reverse with an artisan signature reading "Juan" alongside a stamped regional origin hallmark. The second cross celebrates pastoral life through stacked panel compositions of stylized birds, a rabbit, a butterfly, and a countryside casita beneath a vibrant sky. Condition & Surface Character Both solid pinewood crosses maintain excellent structural integrity and stability. Paint retention remains exceptionally bright and crisp across both pieces, showing only gentle edge smoothing and subtle natural wood grain exposure consistent with authentic vintage craftsmanship. Each cross includes a securely attached brass triangle bracket on the reverse for balanced wall installation.
