Overview
A vintage hand-wrought aluminum serving tray by Cromwell. It is a large rectangular tray with an allover hammered surface, a raised inner rim and a crimped pie-crust border. The center has a raised design of fruit and flowers, including grapes, an apple, a pear, cherries, a squash, a gourd and leaves. Two scrolled aluminum handles are riveted to the short ends. It works for serving, as a bar cart or ottoman tray, or displayed on a shelf or wall.
Background
Hand-wrought aluminum serving pieces were popular American tableware and gifts in the mid-20th century. Cromwell was one of the American makers of this ware. The underside is stamped "Cromwell Hand Wrought Aluminum" inside a six-sided outline. It weighs 1 lb 8.8 oz, which is light for its size.
Condition
Good vintage condition. There are surface scratches and light wear across the top and underside, consistent with use. The handles are firmly attached, and no dents or splits are visible. Please see all photos.
