Description
A handsome vintage Chinese stone seal, presented in its original fitted fabric box. This piece features a hand-carved finial of a Dog (or Hound), the eleventh animal of the Chinese Zodiac, symbolizing loyalty, honesty, and justice.
The seal is carved from a warm, caramel-brown stone (likely soapstone or Shoushan stone) with a smooth, polished finish. The dog is depicted seated atop the plinth, alert and watchful.
What makes this piece particularly desirable for artists and calligraphers is that the base is blank and uncarved. Unlike used antique seals that bear someone else's name, this "virgin" stone is ready to be engraved with your own custom signature, logo, or design. It arrives in a fitted, patterned fabric box with a red satin interior, making it an excellent gift for someone born in the Year of the Dog (1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018) or a collector of scholar's objects.
