In Buddhist and South Asian sacred art, Hariti (or the Matrika Divine Mother) is venerated as the beloved guardian goddess of children, childbirth, and family protection. In sacred lore, Hariti was transformed through Buddhist teachings from a fearsome spirit into a compassionate protector who bestows good health, fertility, and maternal defense upon practitioners and home sanctuaries.
Cast in solid bronze using the ancient lost-wax process (cire perdue), this substantial figure depicts the goddess seated gracefully upon a tiered lotus pedestal (padmasana). She holds a child affectionately in her lap, cradling the infant with both hands. The sculpture is backed by an architectural stele backplate (prabhamandala) featuring sculpted side pillars, a diamond-shaped rear aperture, and a raised top canopy finial.
Finished in a rich, dark bronze patination with subtle earth deposits settled within the relief carving, this piece possesses a commanding physical weight and sacred presence. It serves as a meaningful focal point for personal meditation altars, family shrines, or specialized Asian bronze collections.
Vintage Condition Notes: Excellent vintage condition featuring a heavy, dark oxidized bronze finish with natural calcified earth deposits nestled in the base crevices. Displays authentic casting textures, smooth surface patina from handling, and strong structural integrity throughout.
