Overview
Vintage framed straw art picture showing a rural landscape. A farmer in a conical hat carries two bundles of harvested grain on a shoulder pole, next to a thatched hut and palm tree, with grass tufts and streaks of cloud across the sky. The golden straw pieces are set on a black fabric background under glass, in a light faux-bamboo wood frame.
Background
Straw pictures like this were made by cutting and flattening dried straw into small pieces and laying them out to form a scene. The varied angles catch the light differently. They were popular souvenir and export crafts across Asia in the mid-to-late 20th century. This piece is unmarked and likely Southeast Asian export work, circa 1960s-1980s.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The straw design appears intact. The glass has no chips or cracks, and the frame shows light wear with no corner damage. The paper backing on the reverse has white scuff marks and residue, plus a faint stamped number. A metal hanger is attached and ready to hang. Please see all photos.
