Overview This complementary pair of hand-thrown studio pottery kitchen crocks showcases distinct artisanal glazes and surface techniques. The larger vessel features a hand-painted brown botanical leaf motif over a speckled oatmeal glaze, while the companion crock features a ribbed cylindrical body decorated with a cobalt blue hand-painted "SUCRE" title, warm terracotta gradient base tones, and fine surface crazing. Ideally suited for French Country, Cottagecore, Wabi-Sabi, and Rustic Modern kitchen counters, these vessels work as small utensil holders, desktop organizers, or decorative shelf accents. Cultural & Artistic Background Crafted during the late 20th-century studio pottery movement, these pieces embody functional ceramic artistry. Each vessel was thrown individually on a potter's wheel, leaving gentle finger ridges visible along the body. The "SUCRE" canister reflects classic European pantry traditions, featuring hand-lettered cobalt blue glaze against a soft ivory crackle ground. The botanical jar utilizes iron-oxide brushwork depicting a stylized leaf cluster. Both unglazed earthenware bases reveal natural clay grain and bear incised studio potter maker marks. Condition & Surface Character Both ceramic crocks remain structurally sound, crack-free, and fully intact. The leaf-decorated jar retains a clean matte glaze with crisp brushwork and smooth rim edges. The French sugar vessel displays fine, authentic surface crazing across its upper glazed section, adding character consistent with vintage stoneware. Exposed clay bottoms remain dry and stable.
