Large Vintage African Ebony Wood Carving Hand Carved Tribal Tree of Life 17"

Product Overview & Masterful Heritage Art
Elevate your interior design or tribal art collection with this commanding, remarkably large vintage hand-carved African ebony wood sculpture. Standing an impressive 17 inches tall, this monumental piece is a tour de force of traditional figurative carving. It beautifully captures the spirit of East African Makonde "Ujamaa" (Family Tree of Life) art, which visually weaves together generations of family, community solidarity, and ancestral protection.
The master artisan utilized a massive, solid log of authentic African Blackwood (Ebony). They carved deeply into the midnight-black heartwood to reveal a stately, proud ancestral bust at the apex, looking out with a calm, protective gaze. Below this central figure, an intricate pillar of multiple stylized figures clamber and interlock, dynamically carved in high relief.
What makes this specific sculpture an absolute museum-worthy showpiece is its incredible preservation of the raw timber. The golden-cream outer sapwood forms a striking live-edge frame along the left side, while the reverse side reveals the completely untouched, rugged organic bark texture of the original tree trunk. It is a breathtaking marriage of raw nature and refined human craftsmanship.
